Omoka helps school leavers find their next step. To do that we need some information about you. This page explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language on purpose.
Who we are
Omoka is a product of NAICCON Ltd (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for information you give Omoka. We handle it under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
Contact: hello@omoka.io · 9544, Ronald Ngala Street, Nairobi, Kenya
What we collect
- Your phone number, first name, year of birth and county. Gender is optional.
- The type of phone you use and how much you can spend on training or study.
- Your answers to the interests quiz.
- Your KCSE results: the grades you type in, or a photo of your result slip, or that you are still waiting for results.
- Your chosen path, your 90-day plan, and the actions you tick off.
- Proof you upload for a milestone, such as a certificate, a link or a photo.
- Your messages with Omoka on WhatsApp and SMS, and whether they were delivered, so we can run reminders and fix problems.
- The event code, if you joined by scanning a NAICCON event QR code.
- How you use Omoka, such as which steps you complete. We do not use advertising trackers.
Why we use it
- To match you with three paths and build your 90-day plan.
- To send the reminders you ask for.
- To show you real opportunities that our team has checked.
- To let a mentor follow up if you get stuck, and to approve your milestone proof.
- To check the quality and safety of our recommendations. Our team reviews a sample of the paths we give out.
- To measure whether Omoka is helping students, using totals and trends across the pilot.
We use your information because you agree to it and because we need it to give you the service.
If you are under 18
We ask your parent or guardian to agree before we store your results. We send them a link by SMS or WhatsApp. You can start the interests quiz while we wait. Your results upload and path match unlock once they agree.
Result slips
If you upload a photo of your result slip, software reads it and you confirm each field before we save anything. We delete the photo 30 days after you confirm. We keep only the grades you confirmed.
How the matching works
Fixed rules decide which paths are open to you, based on your grades, budget and county. An AI service then ranks the eligible paths and writes a short reason for each. It can only choose from our checked library. It receives your quiz choices, your confirmed grades and the profile details needed to rank paths, not free text you type. A person at NAICCON reviews matches during the pilot.
Who can see your information
- You.
- Your mentor, if you are assigned one. They see your progress and the grades you confirmed. They do not see your result slip.
- NAICCON staff, only as needed to run and support Omoka. Staff accounts are protected and their actions are logged.
- Service providers that help us run Omoka: WhatsApp (Meta) and SMS providers to send messages, cloud hosting and storage, a text-reading service for result slips, and an AI provider for path matching. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
We do not sell your information. We do not show you ads. We may share totals that do not identify you, for example with partners who support the pilot.
Where it is stored
Your information is kept with our cloud hosting provider, which may store it outside Kenya. When it does, we take steps to make sure it stays protected as the law requires.
How we protect it
- Encryption when it travels and when it is stored.
- Result slips and proof files are opened only through short-lived private links.
- Two-step sign-in for mentors and staff, and a record of what staff do.
No system is perfectly safe, so if something goes wrong we will act quickly and tell you and the regulator when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you use Omoka and for the pilot. Result slip photos go after 30 days. You can ask us to delete your information at any time, and we will unless the law requires us to keep something.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- give you a copy;
- delete it;
- stop using it for a purpose, or take back your consent.
Email hello@omoka.io from your registered number or message us on WhatsApp. If you are not happy with how we handled your request, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) in Kenya.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you on WhatsApp or on this page. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
